Sorry to bump an old thread but I just wanted to confirm what "the fourth way" said -- I never doubted Rob's word. I paid for the pedal at APF 2012 and actually had the silicon version in a box ready to leave with me but after talking with Rob, I agreed to leave the silicon version with the band so that it could be displayed at a few more stops. Rob emailed me a couple times, including once while he was in AUS and also after a somewhat comical misaddressed email to Rob from me. The crew at Acid Fuzz kept me informed as to production timelines and shipping. Now I have the germanium version at home, just as Rob promised.

The pedal is fun and sounds very authentic. It took me a bit of tweaking at first because the fuzz and boost levels need to be turned up higher than I'm accustomed to with most of my other fuzzes. Plus there's a lot of combinations to try -- it is a very flexible pedal. I also have to say that this pedal, at least to my ears, has transformed the band's live sound somewhat and in my opinion that is a very good thing. Now I say that as someone who has seen a lot of their shows and after hearing two outings on this year's tour I can hear a difference in the live sound versus previous tours. I also have to caution that I don't know the extent to which this pedal is used live so maybe I'm totally wrong about the pedal, but there is a difference in the live sound. I'm sure there's a few factors in play but I did see the Acid Fuzz on stage.

I have had to set the pedal aside for a bit because I have taken on an extra project at work (and I should be working on it right now) but when that project is done I'll be back to the pedal and other assorted musical toys.

All-in-all a very good pedal from Acid Fuzz and I'm planning on picking up the silicon version when it comes out in printed circuit form. Thank you Acid Fuzz -- please keep making these things because I want to buy the silicon version!!!

I received the sillicon version and it sounds great too. It would be great to be able to compare both.
I wanted to buy the 2 versions but I don't know if it's worth buying both ...
If somebody have used both and compared and can describe the differences in tone ...
Sillicon version is intended to be smoother than the germanium one.

The germanium does seem to have a bit of grit to it but I wouldn't describe it as a very aggressive fuzz. Out of the basket full of fuzzes I have, I'd say this one falls on the smoother side of the fuzz range. Of course I can't compare it to the silicon Sonic Boom. I'll have to get ahold of the silicon version, you know, just to make sure I can do a scientific comparison and all that...

Last night (NYC) Rob, Ricky, and Anton all used the silicon (black) version of the Sonic Boom by Acid Fuzz - nary a germanium (red) version in sight.

Also, I placed my name on the list for the PCB silicon version when it goes into production. Acid Fuzz is easy to work with by the way.

I saw someone was looking for a video demo of the Sonic Boom 3 in One pedal. Thanks to Mike Nix there's a couple up on youtube. One with a Jazzmaster, one with Les Paul:

They are still listed as built-to-order on the acid fuzz website (http://www.acidfuzz.com)

There was one on the Committee merch stand at Austin Psych Fest (pcb version), which I don't think was sold, but that's a while ago now.

What you can't get (as far as I know) are the ones with the BJM logo on the back.
