Oh man, lovely show.  Great venue with excellent sound and great views from everywhere.  Hell, it even sounded great from the restroom.  Even the crowd were great - I had to leave my prime spot for a song and a half but when I came back, it was still there!

NEW songs and a few comebacks - two of which I had never heard live (last played at Little Radio in 2005).

First half of the set was tighter than the second, but they were clearly trying things out.

High point was Open Heart Surgery, which was close to perfect.  Yes, I am very partial to Disconnected but it's a delicate song and the sound mix wasn't quite right for it, while Straight Up... was a little less together.

It's lovely to have them back.

I have a new camera and didn't get the hang of it, so no photos.

Sorry I don't know the new song titles.

My bad - Ricky was there. Wearing shorts.

I'll edit it when I have more of the song titles. I'm told the first song was "I want to hold your other hand" but I'll check it...

The only disappointment was Spindrift cancelling their set at a bar in Deep Ellum. That would have made a fabulous ending to the night.

Still can't believe how much the set has been overhauled. If you think of all the songs that are usually in there, it's a huge change.

I'm skipping Houston so I can spend the weekend at Psych Fest. Will see some forum members there, I'm sure!

I hope BJM can play 1hr 50 min at APF, but EMO's has a curfew.

The main stage has a barrier gate for all the 'professional' photographers to get in front of the stage with their point and shoot cameras  I hope there are pictures in all the major news outlets

If you move an inch in front of the stage, you will lose your spot...

Glad to see you will be joining us today in Austin.

Awesome set list. So many songs I'd rather hear than "Swallowtail." Got to hear a sweltering 15 minute version in a little place back in '05. Thank you, Gia - great report (as always) - how about The Blue Angel Lounge? Anybody?

Hide And Seek is what I need but the set list looks incredible.

Blue Angel Lounge were excellent and went down well. For one song, for each chorus, Anton would run out on stage to sing with them and run backstage again.

Yes pdmd, no Nevertheless, no Hide & Seek, no Swallowtail, no Whoever You Are, no Nailing Honey, no When Jokers Attack, no Sailor, no Wasted, no Satellite... but that's not to say that the setlist is set in stone - I'm sure some of those songs will get played along the way.

The first show of a tour sometimes has a few oddities/experiments. That's why I like to catch that one.

(Still missing 2 of the new song titles in the setlist above?)

Hey Guys,

Long time lurker/reader here, but inspired to crawl out of my shell after the Granada show.

I first saw BJM on the 2009 tour, both in Dallas and Austin. I thoroughly enjoyed both shows - but Friday night was something else entirely; wonderful, colossal, magnificent .... beautiful. I'm a 51-year old male, but this band makes me act like a teenage girl seeing the Beatles for the first time (I'm still trying to decide if that's a good thing, but I'm leaning towards 'yes'!).

The first part of the set may have been scripted, but it was pretty obvious that at some point, they just kind of started making it up; huddle, break, play song. It was equally obvious that everyone on stage was just having a blast - and Travis' keyboards on 'Got my eye ...' appeared to be completely impromptu, but fantastic. Anton's occasional interjections between songs were funny and/or insightful. I fail to understand how people take everything he says at face value, when there's obvious sarcasm and dry humour, but I guess that's a conversation for another thread. Ricky's closing thanks were so heartfelt, I really felt moved. The whole set was just great; the version of 'Oh Lord' was SO powerful, I thought the crescendo at the end would take the roof of! I didn't drink. I took no drugs. But, boy, was I ever high leaving that show!

I got some video. The sound is poor, but if I can fathom out how to upload it, I will share. And finally, being able to buy 'Aufheben' at the show and start listening to it on the one-hour drive home was the proverbial icing on the cake. Having heard the mix of 'There's a war going on', I was worried there may be the same kind of muddy mix that I hear on MBU, and I'm really not a fan of that mixing 'style', but Aufheben is crisp, and clear, and awesome.

Please tour again soon, BJM. And fellow forum members, glad to finally meet you.

Oh, and the song Matt sung was 'Viholliseni maalla'.

Was the other one 'The clouds are lies', possibly??

Anyone clue me in on adding videos? I've got 'Anemone', 'There's a war going on', 'That Girl Suicide' and 'Straight Up and Down'.
