The Cake Shop is a tiny little venue (cafe and a mini record shop upstairs and small stage and bar in the basement). The after show will probably be a madhouse, spilling onto Ludlow Street outside, because that place fills up quickly. I would try to get there as early as possible--or drop by in the afternoon before the show for a cup of coffee and to see if you can get tickets in advance. If they're not selling advance tickets, at least you can enjoy some cake and buy some records. Have fun this tour everyone!

Have fun this tour everyone! ooh the Cake Shop. Cool place. Tiny is an accurate description but cool nonetheless. Saw Asteroid 4 there when I was in NYC for the last BJM tour. I'm going to have to stop by...

since gia (as usual) faithfully provided all the technical details of the chicago show--check the other thread--might as well tell you what i thought about the show.
in one word: fantastic. my buddy and i have seen close to a dozen bjm shows together going back to 2000 or so and we both agreed that this was one of the best we had ever seen. professionally executed, long, great setlist, positive vibes. i can't find anything to dislike about the show. i'm also not a musician so i can't comment of the sound levels and which instrument was too quiet and which mics needed to be turned up or down. or whatever else you music folks love talking about. in my mind, everything sounded great.
ancillary things that you probably don't care about:
- chicago very recently downgraded pot possession to a ticketable offense and chicagoans are going buck wild with their public smoking. i'm not complaining because i myself love the cheeba. but it was a fucking hotbox in there. at one point, a guy to my friend's left and another guy to my right were chiefing at the same time. we are on our way to decriminalization in chicago, folks.
- on the mustaches: mustaches are very weird things. frankie's mustache makes him look older, while collin's makes him look younger. (remember when you were in high school and you'd never shaved ever and someone says "hey man, you should shave that peach fuzz off your face.") and mine makes me look like a pedophile, but that's neither here nor there.
- the jury is still out on joel. i'm sure he's a nice guy in person, blah blah blah. i just don't see his value, especially since anton and company have abandoned the aesthetic that joel initially brought to the band. anton keeps his friends employed so i can't hate on that. also felt like some songs probably could be played with just five of the eight guys, but what do i know?
- silvertone wore a nice where is waldo type of t-shirt that i enjoyed. so there's that.
- anton admonished most of the crowd for missing the magic castles set. sorry man, i have beer to drink.
