RIP, Scott McKenzie.

"San Francisco"

I play this song to my out of town guests when I pick them up from the airport or when we drive across the Bay or GG Bridge.

Thanks a lot, Scott Mckenzie.

I haven't kept up with this thread, since I typically poke around here while I'm supposed to be working and Youtube is blocked, so this thread is useless there....in any case, if this has already been posted, mea culpa:

I can see you now gliding around to those beautiful tones and would surely never become boring and sure will remain so for decades to come...

Not off piste to much but been listening and researching into the San Francisco sound of the 60's and it got me wondering about the matrix and was quite shocked to read its now a dance club (and maybe not a very good one at that), having never been of course but looking at the pictures of the frontage it seems very narrow, how many people did it hold? was it a thin as it looks? seems a shame it ended up like this but be interested to hear what the locals think.

Matrix... blood it is sure a who's who of the time that was recorded their and thats why it suprised me to see it as a dance club. Would have thought somebody would have wanted to run it as it started out..... instead of a club where people drink Dom perignon and look cool. (Nothing wrong of course with DP but not at the Matrix... seems so wrong)... Of course iconic venues in the UK have bit the dust also.... just seems a shame.

Jefferson Airplane - takes off on heavy rotation in our house this weekend.... signe glides with the best of them...

Amazing to me how cowardly is the average american male. take this to heart would be my subtle command had I known otherwise than to know your plan...

I have given only an honest truth. you cannot live it. I cannot give it.

'Been meaning to respond, but have been up in Mt. Shasta area where many former hippies and "energy" seekers tend to gravitate. (think the Quarter After may have even played a show up there a few years back)

I guess times change. The Matrix's not the club started by Marty Balin so the Jefferson Airplane can have a gig any more. It is in an area called Cow Hollow in SF. I've only been there once or twice after a work function years ago. Not my cup of tea. It is owned by the Plumpjack Group, which is pretty much current Lt. Governor of CA Gavin Newsom (and former SF mayor) with backing by Gordon Getty. (Newsom will probably run for Governor of CA next term)

I was just listening to my Doors live at the Matrix CDs a few weeks ago. Great performance along with clean quality sound. (The reason is because the Doors weren't a big draw yet in 1967 and the room was virtually empty)

The Doors, "When the Music's Over" live at the Matrix, 1967

The Velvet Underground, "Sweet Jane" from "Live 1969" Recorded at the Matrix. Bought this double album record in high school. Still one of the best live albums recorded. If you listen to this version (e.g. "heavenly wine and roses" refrain), you can see how it influenced bands like the Dream Syndicate and their great 1982 debut, "Days of Wine and Roses"

The Dream Syndicate, "When You Smile" 1982
