What are yours? Mine are:
1. Amoeba Records in San Francisco 2. Waterloo Records in Austin 3. Antone's Records in Austin 4. Cactus Records in Houston 5. Groove Merchant Records in San Fran
It's actually more of a tie between Amoeba and Waterloo for first

Portland, Oregon has some great ones. Jackpot and Music Millennium being two of the best.
In the late 80's/early '90's Midnight Records in NYC was awesome. I think they are now strictly mail order these days. That said, Midnight's mail order back in "the day" was pretty atrocious. I remember waiting a couple months to receive my order. The store though was a treat and I could easily spend hours in there (as well as a lot of dough!).

I've never been to Portland before. I feel like I'm missin out. I've heard that it's like Austin and Frisco, scenery and vibe wise. More like a big neighborhood than a big city.

Amoeba in LA was great. I have to look at every record because I'm sure that the one I want is in the next stack For being such a busy place the level of dust there was amazing, but that just adds to the ambiance. In Atlanta, Stax of Waxx. I know this really doesn't qualify, but the Virgin Megastore chain was great for finding imported records. In my town I can choose between best buy or target for music

The main ones I've been to are Amoeba sunset and Fingerprints in LB. Last time I was in Amoeba they were having a Beyond The Valley of the Dolls thing with Strawberry Alarm Clock and I can't remember who else. The selection was incredibly tempting. FP is a very, very small store, but cool. They also have in store performances.

the amoeba store in berkeley is also great, but i have to go with rasputin records as my top pick -- partly because i've been going there (berkeley store) for a long time. http://www.rasputinmusic.com/newhome.cfm

Jumbo in Leeds was pretty good. Not been in ages, though.
