I'm sure compared to most of the people on this board I'm more of a Johnny-come-lately; I picked up on BJM around the time of Tepid Peppermint Wonderland (a wonderful introduction, BTW) and quickly caught up on the back catalogue, with which I consider myself very familiar.

However, I happened to put on 'Bringing it all back home again' on yesterday and .... well, somehow 'Reign On' just hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. I had to stop what I was doing, break out the good headphones and just lose myself in that song, over and over. I connected with it like I'd never done before.

Anyone relate? Am I going mad? Both of these things??

I think most of us can relate to a certain degree. You just reaffirmed to yourself how truly powerful their music is.

Definitely (not that you're going mad ) - Jonestown is a constant fount of musical rediscovery - one of those things that makes them so special. And now we've got some wonderful new music as well. :D

This song just hit me lately in the way you speak of "Reign On" (and after their new set list, it's moved into #1 of BJM songs I want to see played live).

Yeah, I've always really liked "Reign On," but I do tend to skip it a lot just because it can be almost overwhelming, there's so much emotion in the song. Plus it's one of those great songs that I hope I never tire of, and lessen it's impact, so I try not to listen to it too much. But I would definitely put in in my all-time top 5 favorite BJM songs. BTW, to me it always sounded like Miranda was singing "Lennon" after the "goodbye" part in the chorus. I never realized, until recently looking up the lyrics, that she's saying "reign on" there. I kind of liked the idea that the song was like an ode to John Lennon or something. Oh well, I can pretend. :)

Miss June 75. I love that lp. Half of it sounds like sleazy blues Spacemen 3, and much of the rest like George Harrison White Lp. And then there's this raw Hollywood gem in the middle.

Stillborn is another. Chucked away on a radio session. Most powerful hypnotic song they've ever done for me.

I feel ya Fourth Way. I can't stop obsessing over the Zero EP. Whatever Hippie Bitch? Gets me hard. Could listen to that one on repeat for hours.

That cover of the classic I Fought The Law never ceased to amaze me. It was on the compilation Delphonics Sound Today, released in 1999, but it sounds like what Anton was doing 10 years later with MBU or WKSP.

Thanks, guys. I didn't mean to start this and then disappear, but a wrecked car, then a daughter in the hospital ... anyhoo, all is well!

Good to know I'm not insane. (I think). This was not the first time I'd had that reaction to a BJM song (far from it), but it was the magnitude of it; it was almost orgasmic. There's no doubt that there is power in their music - it's a constant world of re-discovery. I can watch movies over, if I'm going to find something new, and I like my music the same way.

fourth way, I loved the footage on the 'WHB' video, and I can see how that sound could be equally impactful - but you could say that about most of them, no? - and, kingharry, I, too, am currently back on Satanic Majesties, the least instant of their early albums but perhaps the strongest.

Kylounette, I had NEVER heard the 'I fought the Law' cover before! Thank you!
