I'm far from a hipster for two reasons:

1. I'm nowhere near cool enough.

but more importantly....

2. I'm too old!

THAT SAID, did they not say the same thing about the hippies and the punks killing rock and roll? Hippies were accused of killing it with their self indulgent 40 minute freak-outs and the punks for their philosophy of not knowing how to play your instruments and just bang out anything from 30 seconds but no longer than 3 minutes of angry noise.

Each generation has its culprit or punching bag but we all know that rock and roll will always survive.

Hippies, garbage? Well, if you say so, I guess. Personally I would say that a huge wealth of incredible, innovative and inspirational music was recorded by those damn hippies. The mid to late 60's was a magical time for music. Some pretty fine tunes came out of the 70's too.

Hipsters on the other hand...they need to last the test of time. Lets see where they all are in 10 or so years and if their music lasts. To me, the hipsters are also the pretentious ones trying far too hard to be seen in the scene as opposed to actually playing music that has any substance.

"Trying far to hard to be in the scene"

Wasn't talking about the tunes, just about the people. Hipsters, and hippies, are both just a bunch of trash if you ask me

i don't mind the hippies from the mid 60's to early 70's but the modern day hippies are the real main offenders.

you know the type - the tied dyed shirt/skirt wearing, blonde dreadlocks, hacky sac playin, jamaican hemp hats, hug a whale, tofu eatin, sandal wearin, phish concert attending, early 70's volkswagaon van drivin, burnouts...

Not that modern now because the crowd you describe have been hanging around since the 1980's-era Grateful Dead stadium concerts. I assume Phish inherited them in masses when Jerry died.

Very nice! Easy to fix cars too, which makes them the Energizer bunny of vehicles. They just keep running and running....
