I'll second this recommendation. I 'm very happy with my PGW Phantom 12. The cost is reasonable and the neck/fretboard is easier to navigate them some other more expensive 12-string electrics out there.

cheesus wrote: Just recently bought another amp, Fender Blues Junior. Really wrapped with it, my pro reverb is to hard to keep under reasonably levels without cranking it. Plan on possibly upgrading the reverb tank/speaker and the tubes. Currently have the eq set on Treble: 12, Middle 10, Bass 1-2 and it seems to get quite the 60's jangle bjm tone I'm after.
Thanks for the settings. I have a Deluxe Reverb Reissue that I picked up well before Fender went nuts on their pricing. It is a good amp for getting that Fender tone at manageable volumes. If anyone is looking for something that can cop a decent facsimile of the BJM tone at lower volumes, I'd recommend that amp if you can find a reasonably priced used model. They are seriously overpriced new though...

i wish i could resist participating in a guitar-related thread but it's completely my weakness...
i have a lot of stuff- i used to think i didn't have that much because it doesn't take me a long time to get set up when my band plays, but when i look at all of it in writing it's a lot.
i've got a fender jaguar and a jazzmaster (both are japanese made in the late 90s), a mustang (also japanese) and a fender 6-string bass as well (also a reissue).
i use two amps most of the time- a fender twin silverface from the late 70s and a fender princeton chorus.
for effects i don't use that much- i have a yamaha spx 90 and my pedals are- boss tr-2 tremelo, two boss dd-5's digital delays, proco rat, marshall shredmaster, crybaby wah, vox over the top boost and a fender chromatic tuner. i'd love to replace a few of them but i just don't have the money right now. i used to have a fender blender and i've had several big muff pi's over the years (i've always gone for the russian ones) but i had to sell a bunch of stuff that i wasn't using recently and those the were the first to go.

regarding Collin's gear, Ive never seen him playing a Fender Precision, but a rather a Fender Jazz. His amp is a Fender Bassman as far as I can tell.
Sounds like he uses flatwound strings for that deep round vintage sound, though I'm not certain.

What are those Vox Lynx guitars like ? They're seems to be a heap of them around and they go for around 700-1000 usd.

You all seem to have some excellent gear. Here's mine for whatever it's worth (little):
I just about bought that Vox guitar but aside from the price and the annoying pickups, that were either damaged or just terrible, it felt like nothing special enough to drop all my cash on.
Anyway, I never tried to sound like anyone, especially the BJM, however I do play a lot of shoe-gaze and VU/Spacemen 3 fuzz music and I can get the BJM sound rather easily.
For the BJM sound I use a John Lennon Epiphone Casino. For pedals I use a Turbo Rat, Line 6 DL-4 set to multi-head echo (sounds like the Roland Space-Echo without the annoying tape problems/EHX Holy Grail (set at 1/4)/Moog Low-Pass Filter (there is a setting if you play around, in unison with a fuzz pedal, you can just use it as a crazy wah/ZVEX Fuzz Factory (depending on the song)/Boss FZ-2 (Normally this fuzz works best with the Rat for BJM sound. I also run it through a Fender bass amp, not too sure the model. Twin Reverbs are good but they are annoyingly sensitive and too loud compared to a Vox original, just my taste.
My entire set-up is as follows, will post pics, since the Digiverb comes in handy for some BJM stuff just to mainly loop or kick in for certain tremolo-picking sections.
Guitars: John Lennon Epiphone Casino, Epiphone Firebird bass, Ibanez (not too sure the model since my friend has been recording with it for half-a-year, Strat, and an Epiphone Hummingbird acoustic.
Pedals (in no order, they always are rotated in the chain): Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, ZVEX Fuzz Factory, Danelectro Tuna Melt (I believe) tremolo, ProCo Turbo Rat, EHX Small Stone, EHX Big Muff, MXR Blue Box, Boss FZ-2 Fuzz, Danelectro FAB flanger, EHX Frequency Anaylzer, Digitech Digiverb, EHX Holy Grail reverb, Moog Low-Pass Filter (with expression pedal), and a Line 6 DL-4 (with expression pedal). All that is missing is every other Moog pedal that, naturally, takes forever to save up to buy. Hope that helps, because if you want a My Bloody Underground sound the Digiverb comes in very handy.

Woah, that ultrasonic is in amazing condition, mines full of checking and doesn't have the original strap buttons or wah handle..
Is the wah scratchy at all?

can you explain? I know the digiverb has a lot of different reverbs and I've been eying that pedal for a while. maybe what im asking is what reverbs on it work well for you and maybe in the context of which songs from MBU? thanks for the post man, looks like youve got a great set up yourself.

Good luck on your sale. It looks like you have a bidder. To say that I'm interested would be an understatement but the euro/dollar conversion rate is decidedly unfavorable for me. I am preparing myself for sticker shock as my holiday to Paris and London draws near...just 11 more days and I'll be in Paris for five days followed by London for ten.
I do have an on topic question: would you tell me about the neck and the frets on the ultrasonic. Many vintage instruments have small gauge fret wire. I prefer larger frets. Certainly not jumbo frets because then you get intonation problems, but medium jumbo frets are probably my favorite. Also I was wondering about the fretboard radius. I like to have a bit of curve to my fretboard. I dislike boards that are very nearly flat -- like shred style guitars. Does the Ultasonic have a noticeable radius to it? Thanks in advance. I'm just curious in case I run across an opportunity to pick one up in the future.
Good luck on your auction.

First, the neck of VOX guitars and basses are the greatest for me. About the radius, it's similar IMO to Fender Strat/Tele necks. The original frets are small gauge and I like it like that. All I can tell you is I had a VOX Aristocrat (same neck as the Ultrasonic) refretted with medium frets and it worked fine too.
In addition, I would tell (IMO ) VOX necks are like Fender necks but thinner all the length, and with a narrower at nut than a Fender Strat/Tele.

12stringDreams wrote: PEDALS -- what are you using for your sound? We've had plenty of guitar talk but what about your pedals.
I have not been much of a pedal freak until recently. My go to pedals are:
Boss RE-20 Space Echo digital modeler. Probably my favorite pedal. I find it to be very flexible and it works fine in front of an amp in many cases. Equally good in the loop. I have read that some people call it a one-trick pony but I just don't see that. I'd like to get a vintage tape RE-201 just to compare.
Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo. Clean sound, plenty of sound sculpting options, helpful options for setting the rate. Works great in the loop.
MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay. The new standard. Seems like I see them everywhere and for good reason. Woks fine in front of amp.
EH Big Muff Pi. Another standard. Sound good when it is not picking up the local country radio station. Noisy as hell. But it does its job well when you want that classic fuzz sound.
New to the stable and still awaiting a thorough checkout: Red Witch Fuzz God. I'm looking for a fuzz with a few more options than the Big Muff. Mostly to get a singing sound and in other settings a more aggressive sound.
Not as good as it seemed it would be: Red Witch Pentavocal Trem. It sounds very good but the many options don't seem to alter the sound as much as I expected.
A real disappointment: Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. Couldn't find a good tone in that pedal. It's probably fine for some application but didn't work for me.
That's about it. I have a few others but nothing really notable.
Do you find the space echo noisy ? Bought one recently and it rules however when it's not engauged I still get a lot of noise coming from it, some sort of repeating signal. I have it last in my chain and run it off a 9v psu.
