Mannequin wrote: I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE that they gave Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. ...Makes me want to puke! Our country is a laughing stock. I don't blame you European fella's for hating us Americans so much. We're a joke. (A) Who would you have preferred to win, and (B) Who really cares? From what I understand, the vote, which was accompanied by an unprecedented justification for it, was intended to be a gesture of acknowledgment of sane international politics. Rather than posturing as a nuke-chucking nutcase like the Bushes, O-bama-lama-ding-dong postures as a dialogue-ready moderate, especially with respect to nuke-developing countries and jihad-ready terrorists. The left-leaning Nobel committee felt that this difference from the formerly prevailing attitude makes for a safer world. Perhaps this is so. In any case, it's just a prize. Just because it is more publicized than others, this doesn't mean that anything fundamentally has changed. We're fucked, just as before. So rejoice in our fucked-up-edness!! And we still have not forgiven you Texans for giving us George Bush...

the nobel prize is pretty much a joke. for every nobel winner, in any category, there are so many more deserving nominees. who knows how they come to their decisions, but is it worth caring about?
i love how anything obama does or doesn't do is so fucked up. did you read the article that says that obama initially was shocked by the award and didn't feel he deserved it? but then his advisors told him that the global community would take offense to his declining the award because it would seem ungrateful and callous, so he accepted it?
and for those with short memories, yasir arafat and shimon peres won the nobel peace prize for signing a peace treaty. that worked out great, didn't it?
yes, america is fucked and has been fucked for a while. if you're just realizing this, then that's the real tragedy here.

All great comments. I had a reply in mimd after I read the first post about Obama winning. Once I read each subsequent post and got to the end, I forgot what I wanted to say...

A quick follow-up. I'm a bit confused why Obama was awarded that silly prize. I thought it was supposed to be for "actions taken". I don't know, or really want to know, Obama's, or any other politician's, exact history, but I don't think his actions taken in the past could be deemed to promote world peace. Hell, that means that anyone of us, in this forum, could be candidates for the next prize...
P.S. Hey Uselesseater. I'm interested in your opinion on the limited life-span of the US. I'd like to ask you to save me some reading time and give me a few bullet-points, in a response, why those authors, or yourself, think that might be true.
