I store my records as I do my books. They are filed on shelves and are tightly packed but still loose enough to be able to easily pull out. Records are heavy so distributing the weight equally is important. None of my albums lean on one another-they are all vertical within the shelving unit. If you do not have shelves you can do this in boxes or crates as well.

Rocky, what condition was the $50 copy of 'Freak Out' in? I am assuming it was on the Verve label? Was it mono or stereo? Did it have the 'Freak Map'? The original '69 'Uncle Meat' should be on the 'Bizarre' label. Not sure how many were pressed of these....BUT $50 for 'Freak Out' might be a fair price especially if both the record and the cover are in excellent/mint condition AND it is a first pressing!

I live in Liverpool and there aren't many indie record shops.

There's Probe, which is tiny and way way overpriced. Then there's a little stall in new Quiggins, which is mainly metal and goth bullshit. Oh and there's Hairy Records, which isn't too bad actually, but apparently overpriced as well.

Damn. I should really open a record shop.........

the amoeba store in berkeley is also great, but i have to go with rasputin records as my top pick -- partly because i've been going there (berkeley store) for a long time. :D

yeah, i've dropped alot o' $$ at the telegraph site...Mod Lang in El Cerrito has some good finds as well.

I recall going into Rasputin's about umpty years ago lookin for a Dandy Warhol's record. The clerk said he met the band "backstage" and that "they were assholes"...i could hardly keep a straight face. Such a hard-sell!

I seem to go to the one in Camberwell quite alot, mainly because it's alot more reasonably priced than most indepedent record stores in London that just rip off tourists.
