It's been a couple of weeks....don't know if anyone else already posted anything on his passing. I was lucky enough to see Blue Cheer play with The Black Angels in Texas a few years ago....and man...in an era when other sixties icons like The Stones are just embarrassing....they were still unbelievably HEAVY and LOUD....great show. Respect to a true trailblazer of heavy duty psychedelic rock....http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/14/arts/music/14peterson.html

RIP, indeed.
Although I wasn't a huge fan of their later work, especially the metal years...their first two albums; 'Vincebus Eruptum' and 'Outside Inside' are both incredible slabs of 60's flower power meets Hell's Angels biker rock. Two of the very best, only made better when put into context with the time frame that they were recorded. They were also never a true psychedelic band but 'Piece of Mind' with Randy Holden on guitar was one of their greatest and most freakishly psych songs.
Fly on, Brother Dickie.
