Will check out this Mitchell guy.
if you do, start with cloud atlas. as not you said, it's one of the best novels i've read in any genre. it's become one of my top ten novels. i'm only halfway through ghostwritten, and it's great, but cloud atlas is just in its own class.
Have Cloud Atlas on order, arriving soon...
Just re-read Camus' The Stranger.
Next up: Blow-up and Other Stories by Julio Cortázar.

but more notably i just finished Ask the Dust by John Fante, a real fantastic read... brilliant balance between humour and tragedy... Arturo Bandini was a right asshole though

ha! how soon is now? It just arrived minutes ago! I have put cortazar on hold & am perusing the ornate filigree of mitchells finely wrought prose.
Will let thee know when its read & shall hope a not too stridently or contumely worded report shall follow from what issues thence & then.

I am reading a book about Mummy. It is entitled "The Mummy" by Anne Rice. Well, I do love reading books about music but this tiime, I want to divert to a suspense-thriller book.

i love Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. I never really read horror or much genre fiction (except Tolkein and a few other fantasy books) but a friend insisted i read The Vampire Lestat when i was about 20. I think i was actually a bit snobby about it, but the first couple of chapters shut me up . i was amazed by how rich the writing was. it totally draws you in. I started staying home to read all day and got a bit obsessed. I started wishing Lestat was my boyfriend...
anyway, right now I'm finally reading Roald Dahl's grown up stories. still twisted and still rad.

You should read his Selected Letters. It's got loads of the same stuff but with the real names.

'Hammer of the Gods'.
Decent read, the author enjoys embellishing the bands perverse antics with their groupies though (fish story! ).

pop. 1280 sounds intriguing. never read him before, although i did love both the getaway and grifters movies.
watched apocalypse now for the 100th time last week, so i had to pull this out. the overt racism didn't really affect me all that much 15 years ago, but now i'm bristling from it. maybe i'm getting soft in my old age.
