Liver Enzymes High liver enzyme activity in the bloodstream indicates deterioration of liver cells, often a result of alcohol intake. Drinking coffee has been found to directly affect the production of these liver enzymes; regular coffee drinkers show lower liver enzyme levels than people who drink little coffee or none at all. Cirrhosis Cirrhosis, a type of liver disease that causes progressive damage to liver tissue and function, appears to be inversely related to coffee drinking. A large-scale study by the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program found that people who drank four or more cups of coffee per day had a much lower risk of developing cirrhosis than those who did not drink coffee. Hepatitis C A study in patients with hepatitis C showed significantly slower development of liver disease in patients who drank three or more cups of coffee each day. However, the study authors caution that these results should not be generalized to healthy people. Hepatocellular Carcinoma Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or primary liver cancer, is a common type of cancer. The most significant risk for HCC is cirrhosis, which can be caused by hepatitis, alcohol consumption and obesity. Some studies suggest a dose-related relationship between coffee and HCC: lower risk of HCC was associated with higher daily doses of coffee. Effective Mechanism in Coffee The mechanism in coffee that causes its positive effects on liver function and in preventing or slowing liver disease is unclear. Caffeine appears to play a recognized role in liver enzyme activity, but the effects of other substances in coffee, like cafestol and kahweol, have yet to be determined. Some studies indicate that the coffee itself, not necessarily the caffeine that can be found in other beverages like tea, is the beneficial agent in liver problems.

Drank some really great beers while here in california off the top of my head...
Tap it IPA Mac 10 double IPA Union jack IPA Port brewing company 750 ml Ice (something) IPA
It's got me thinking how much I like the hoppy IPA coming out the states, a friend lives in Detroit and I've had equally interesting IPA like bells hopslam and crooked tree and such like....
Any suggestions of other US beers I should be looking for?

Any suggestions of other US beers I should be looking for? Stone Brewery in Southern California (Escondido) puts out some great hoppy IPAs including "Arrogant Bastard Ale" and Stone IPA.

A good place in LA to sample craft brews and have a great burger is at Father's Office. I've only been to the Santa Monica location on Montana Street, but there is also an offshoot in Culver City. Get there earlier in evening to get a seat. (and don't ask for ketchup)

Ah! Finally found the Drinking Thread.
Arrogant Bastard is the shit. Couldn't stomach the taste until this one night me and the gang were getting drunk with some squatter kids beneath the local pier. I was plenty drunk when a guy named Eggroll mentioned that it was his favorite beer. So after immediately going out to get a bottle, my temporarily broken sense of taste was blasted back into active duty by this hellish shotgun blast of hops. It was delicious. I've since fallen in love with it. I've been meaning to try their other brews but I can never resist the AB.
Firestone Double Barrel Ale is another favorite of mine. Definitely worth picking up a sixer. Decently priced as well.
And since moving to Portland Oregon, I've discovered this low end domestic called Hamms. It's $1.25 a glass and it tastes just like Pabst. Nice to buy rounds for the guys and get everyone drunk and not shit a brick when you pay your tab.

Ha, just posted a BJM Tour note where I recounted, briefly, being at The Beer Belly Saturday before the show. Well, just now, I'm a bit over-stocked. The in-home, draught beers on at the moment are Paulaner Lager, Sierra Nevada Summerfest Lager, Drakes 1500 Pale Ale, Racer 5 IPA and a Craftsman, Monkee See Imperial IPA. Did someone say beer?

btw...I'd never thought I'd see the words Arrogant Bastard, squatter kids, and a guy named Eggroll in such close proximity to each other.

You're welcome? Haha
Just got back from a bar here in Portland and wouldn't you know it, I met some mother fucker from my high school in California. Anyways, they had Stone IPA on tap and I finally had a taste of it. It was good, but it left me craving some AB.
It was just me, my roommates, and two transvestites (from my home town), and the Bartender who was playing her own personal collection of FEAR from her iPod. We actually had a pretty good conversation about the BJM. Good fuckin times.

ran into a bottle of arrogant bastard in a very odd shop near by to the viper rooms in LA.... it had really old 1977/ 1980 claret stood up in the heat which I would run a mile from but did have a good range of beers the AB been one and I also bought something called racer 5... the AB was darker with a touch more maltiness the racer 5 a lighter style but curiously stronger.
Dont think I quite have a grip on what styles american ipa can be....... so think it need a bit more research...
I am back home now so coming by this sort of stuff is going to become tricky.
